Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has pulled out of the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Reports indicate that Semenyo requested to be left out of the team for the September/October international window as he continues his recovery from a lingering ankle problem.
His absence is another setback for head coach Carlos Queiroz, who is already without several important players, including Tottenham Hotspur attacker Mohammed Kudus, who also withdrew because of injury concerns.
Semenyo’s withdrawal comes shortly after he scored twice in Manchester City’s 5-3 Premier League win over Sunderland, a result that sent City to the top of the table.
The growing list of withdrawals has raised concerns about Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2027 AFCON. In response, nine new players have been invited to replace those who are unavailable.
Ghana will face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24 before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29, 2026. The Black Stars will then play Morocco in an international friendly on October 4, 2026, to conclude the international break.
The team will be aiming for strong results in the two qualifiers to improve its chances of securing qualification early and avoiding pressure later in the campaign.
